MARION COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – An airport maintenance and repair business in Columbia that specializes in upgrading electronic systems on airplanes will soon be moving into a new building.

On Tuesday, the construction of the foundation for the new Cartier Aviation took place.

Ed Cartier Jr. is an Air Force veteran who has worked in the aviation industry for more than 30 years.

“I’m very fortunate to have this and to have the support here and the Columbia-Marion Airport was great, giving me this opportunity,” Cartier said.

Cartier is opening operations at the Columbia-Marion County Airport in 2022, operating from an old hangar.

When the new building is complete, it will allow it to focus on the heart of the business, which is avionics.

“Basically we focus on the avionics department, although we work with other companies, Garmin, Dynon, putting digital displays, as opposed to the old analog, moving away from that,” said Cartier.

Cartier hopes that the new building will be ready for business at the end of March next year.
