Bobby Petrino returning to Arkansas? Ex-Razorbacks coach finalizing deal to serve as offensive coordinator

Bobby Petrino has indicated that a deal is being finalized in principle to return to Arkansas as the program’s offensive coordinator. 247 sports. Petrino coached the Razorbacks from 2008-11 and spent the 2023 season as Texas A&M’s offensive coordinator after a few years as a head coach at the FCS level.

Petrino went 34-17 in his career with the Razorbacks and finished the 2011 season ranked No. 5 in the final AP Top 25 poll, earning two BCS bowl bids. His career at Arkansas came to a screeching halt when he was released in April 2012 after being charged with an inappropriate relationship with a female employee.

The offensive coordinator position became vacant after Arkansas coach Sam Pittman fired Dan Enos in November. The offense struggled to find consistency and protect the quarterback. Pitman said he wanted to recruit this week to stabilize players before the transfer portal opens on Monday.

You want to be right, but you want to be as fast as you can.” he said. “You want to get some guys in here on Tuesday and Wednesday so they can talk to the kids before we go on the road. I don’t know if that’s possible or not, but obviously we’re in. Conversations with different people.”

Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek announced on Nov. 19 that Pittman will return in 2024 despite a 4-8 record.

“This was not the season any of us expected.” he said. “We have work to do and I am confident that together we can meet the goals and expectations of our program. I want to thank the many Razorbacks fans who supported our team this season.”

Petrino spent last season on Jimbo Fisher’s staff Texas A&M. The Aggies struggled offensively, finishing the regular season with 403.8 yards per game and 5.89 yards per game. However, they were plagued by injuries, including the loss of two of their top quarterbacks — Connor Weigman And Max Johnson.
