Florida Atlantic vs. Texas A&M – It was a great weekend for FAU as it won the ESPN Events Invitational with an 84-50 victory over Virginia Tech, while Texas A&M bounced back from a short-handed 73-loss loss at FAU. 69 wins at Iowa State. So the Owls and Aggies are now No. 13 and No. 14, respectively, in the CBS Sports Top 25 and No. 1 daily college basketball rankings updated Monday morning. Purdue remains No. 1 for the sixth straight day and should also be No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and USA Today coaches giving each update after Monday.

The Texas A&M-Iowa State game was wild.

With two of their top three scorers out due to injuries — Henry Coleman III and Tyrese Radford — the Aggies fell behind by 21 points, 35-14, on Sunday and look set to drop to 1-2 in the eight-team event. But Texas A&M cut ISU’s lead to 12 late in the first half and started the second half with a 24-8 run to take control.

“I thought we played incredibly hard,” Texas A&M coach Booth Williams said. “I thought we weren’t selfish, I thought we connected, I thought we played a great fight.”

That “amazing fight” capped the Aggies’ third-place finish at the ESPN Event Invitational after losing to FAU on Friday. On Sunday, FAU beat Virginia Tech by 34 points to win an event previously lost to big names like Gonzaga, Kansas, Villanova and Maryland.

“These guys attack the game of basketball the right way,” FAU coach Dusty May said of the players. “They’re a joy to coach and a joy to watch.”

The Owls have now won four straight since a shocking home loss to Bryant nine days ago. They are 6-0 and ranked No. 39 by heading into Thursday’s game against the Liberty. So that would be a chance for FAU to add its fourth top-70 win in four weeks.
