Easley – After a decisive victory in the Nov. 21 election, Easley Mayor-elect Lisa Talbert is ready to make changes that voters clearly want.
Talbert won 63 percent of the vote, defeating incumbent Mayor Butch Womack by 753 votes.
She doesn’t see herself as mayor long-term, she told the Post and Courier, saying she’s “trying to take the necessary steps to change the form of government necessary for a voter referendum from mayor-council to council-manager.”
“We all want financial and administrative transparency in addition to more responsible growth,” Talbert said in an email. “I plan to ask for a six-month moratorium on new developments.”
With about 16,000 registered voters, turnout in Easley on a rainy night before Thanksgiving was 17.99 percent.
Womack won three seats, including Hunt Meadows in Anderson County, though not by more than three votes. He did not respond to requests for comment.
There are 33 registered voters within the city limits of Easley in Anderson County. Five voted in the finals.
“It was very encouraging to see voters come out to express their will,” Talbert said. “I hear you Easley, and I look forward to serving and working together to get Easley back on track!”
Talbert had 44 percent of the vote with 1,455 votes and Womack had 34 percent with 1,108 votes in the Nov. 7 election.
The vote of the Pickens City Council was confirmed
In an effort to elect two more council members in the Nov. 21 race, the city of Pickens elected Floyd Rogers and Allie Winter.
Rogers received 220 votes and Winters 160 votes. The city had a 16 percent turnout with 297 votes.
The vote of the Central City Council was confirmed
The Pickens County Board of Elections also certified the results of the two central elections.
