Finland will close its entire border with Russia to travelers for the next two weeks to prevent asylum seekers from entering the Nordic country, the government announced on Tuesday.

Finland last week closed all but one of its remaining border crossings to travelers from Russia, opening only the northern crossing into the Arctic. But this too will now be closed, allowing only cargo, the government said.

About 900 asylum seekers, including Kenya, Morocco, PakistanSomalia, Syria and Yemen entered Finland from Russia in November, an increase of less than one per day previously, the Finnish border guard announced.

The decision is only for cargo transportation between the two countries.
