The Hobbs administration met behind closed doors Monday with business leaders to discuss ways to boost Arizona’s clean energy economy.

Officials from Hobbs’ resettlement office met with officials from Honeywell, Microsoft, Lucid Motors, Care Power and other companies at the Honeywell facility in northern Phoenix.

The attendees declined to discuss specifics of those discussions, but Hobbs energy policy adviser Blaise Caudill said the discussion focused on ways the state supports industry partners, such as workforce pipeline construction and ensuring Arizona’s electric grid is sustainable.

“So really, at the end of the day, we understand that what matters is that we’re partnering with industry to build the future of Arizona,” he said.

Both Caudill and Arizona Technology Council CEO Steven Zylstra said federal investment has been a key contributor to this partnership, particularly highlighting funds from the Affordable Care Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“I can tell you the most recent data I’ve seen says that Arizona has received $8.3 billion in investment and created 12,600 jobs in the two years that IRA has been in place,” Zylstra said.

Zylstra said those investments have resulted in a stronger local clean energy production supply chain, noting that Arizona now has five electric vehicle manufacturers, four battery manufacturers and three lithium battery recyclers.

Edwin Hernandez-Vargas, manager of state and local affairs at KORE Power, said his business has seen those impacts as well. KORE power A 1.3 million square foot advanced battery manufacturing facility is currently under construction at Buckeye..

“The benefit we’ve really seen for us is in this growth in demand, in demand for our products,” Hernández-Vargas said. But our goal is to really create a locally sourced supply chain.
