Mehran Tishehgaran resigned “due to the events at the Asian Deaf Athletics Championships,” ISNA news agency reported Monday morning.

Sports Minister Kiumars Hashimi has named Alireza Khosravi to replace Tishehgara, he said.

Iranian media recently published a picture of a female athlete wearing shorts and a tank top during a Sunday-Monday competition in Tehran.

Men and women did not mix during the Tishehgaran competition.

“There were only women in that area and the security officials collected all the cameras and mobile phones,” he said in an interview with Fars News Agency.

Tishehgaran added that the images of the athlete were taken by his team from Kazakhstan.

Shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, covering the head and neck was mandatory for all women in Iran — including foreigners.

It is to be remembered that the head of the Iran Athletics Federation resigned in May.

Women have been flouting a strict dress code since months of protests erupted in September last year following the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, in custody.

Amini was arrested for violating the dress code.
