An oil tanker with ties to Israel was seized off the coast of Yemen by unidentified gunmen on Sunday, a US defense official confirmed. Following a series of events on the same cruise line.

The official told AFP that there were indications that an unknown number of armed men had seized the MV Central Park in the Gulf of Aden on November 26. US and coalition forces are in the area and we are monitoring the situation closely.

US Navy forces are “preoccupied” after the disaster involving the Central Park ship, which is owned by a UK-based company with ties to Israel, said Ambury, a maritime security firm.

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have previously threatened to launch an attack if the tanker is not diverted to Hodeidah port, he said.

He was intercepted by a US Navy cruiser Central Park warning him not to ignore the messages.

The boarding took place off the coast of the Yemeni port city of Aden, where another vessel reported “the arrival of eight men on two skiffs dressed in military uniform”.

It comes a week after a US defense official said an Iranian drone strike in the Indian Ocean damaged an Israeli-owned cargo ship, and a week after the Houthis seized an Israeli-linked cargo ship in the southern Red Sea.

The Iran-aligned Houthis say they are part of an “axis of resistance” and have carried out drone and missile attacks on Israel since October, following an unprecedented attack by Hamas militants on Israel.

Israel has vowed to “destroy” Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, after Palestinian militants killed around 1,200 mostly civilians and took around 240 hostages on October 7.

The Hamas government in Gaza has since killed nearly 15,000 people, mostly civilians, as a result of Israeli airstrikes and ground attacks on the Palestinian territories.
