Washington DC:

US President Joe Biden has welcomed two more days of truce between Israel and Hamas after successful mediation by Qatar, Israel’s The Times reported.

Biden issued a statement welcoming the extended truce.

“I have been deeply engaged in the last few days to ensure that this agreement – through extensive mediation and diplomacy by the United States – is and continues to be,” the US president said.

“So far, more than 50 hostages have been released and returned to their families,” Biden said, adding that Hamas had released 11 more hostages on the fourth day of the peace process.

He repeated the situation of four-year-old Israeli-American Avigail Idan, who was released from prison yesterday.

According to The Times of Israel, before Idan’s arrest, her parents were killed in front of her on October 7.

Biden continued, “I have spoken with Abigail’s family following her release, and we are working closely with our Israeli partners to ensure she receives the care and support she needs as she begins to recover from this unspeakable trauma.”

In addition, he highlighted the additional humanitarian aid and said, “The suspension of humanitarian aid has made it possible to increase the humanitarian aid to the innocent civilians who are suffering on the Gaza Strip.”

In addition, Biden emphasized that no other country has donated more to Palestinian humanitarian aid than the United States, Israel’s The Times reported.

“We are taking full advantage of the pause in the fight to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza and will continue our efforts to build a future of peace and dignity for the Palestinian people,” Biden said.

Afterwards, the leaders of Israel, Qatar and Egypt thanked for their cooperation and pledged to continue fighting until all the hostages in Gaza are released, The Times of Israel reported.

Last Monday, Qatar successfully negotiated to extend the four-day truce between Israel and Hamas by two days, a spokesman for the Doha Foreign Ministry announced.

Spokesman Majid al-Ansari told X newspaper: “The State of Qatar announced that, through ongoing mediation, an agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for two more days.

This means at least ten more Israeli hostages will be released on Tuesday and another ten on Wednesday, with 30 Palestinian prisoners released each day by Israel, according to The Times of Israel.

However, while there was no immediate confirmation of Israel’s extension of the peace deal, Hamas issued its own statement highlighting the mediation efforts of Qatar and Egypt, he added.
