The mission features an A+B joint observatory, in which satellite A carries payloads such as high-precision vector magnetometers and standard-scale magnetometers to detect the Earth’s magnetic field. The satellites were launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China in May this year. Testing was completed over the following months with the satellites in orbit.
According to the chief scientist of the satellite project, Zhang Keke, the “Macao Science 1” satellites will provide important information on the high precision changes of the geomagnetic field at low attitude changes.
The satellite platforms were built by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and the Northwest Polytechnic University of China, while the scientific instruments on both satellites were built by the Macau University of Science and Technology.
