ALEDO, IL {KWQC} – The annual “Shop Small” tradition continues in Aledo, Illinois as the community celebrates “Small Business Saturday.”

“From boutique clothing to antiques and more, many of Aledo’s businesses have a lot to offer this holiday season,” said Aledo Mayor Chris Hagloch. “Shopping local helps more than just small businesses, it helps the entire community. Here in Aledo, we want to encourage everyone to shop.”

Over the years, local store owners on Main Street have connected with the community through their local convenience stores.

“It brings a lot of people from around town,” said Simply Grace store owner Donna Lloyd. This city supports “buy early and buy small” very well. Plus, it brings in people from around the country from other small towns. So this is a big help,” he said.

Locals continue to frequent the shops because the place provides security and a homely feel.

“I love Aledo’s small businesses,” said Mary Flint, a local shopper. Because if I’m at home and I need something, I can run here and always get what I need. If we need something, we can come to small businesses and they are willing to help us. So we need to help them. Today is an excellent day to do so.

The Alley Marketplace is new to Main Street as many vendors and small businesses occupy different spaces.

“Businesses like this are what I say, it’s sweet to be in Aledo,” said Alley Marketplace vendor Pam Rickey. “It’s like pie, but the businesses are busy and on top of that, and people want more of an experience where they can come downtown and shop, and our community has always been very supportive of those businesses.”

According to the American Chamber of Commerce, up to 65% of small businesses’ annual revenue is generated during the holiday season.

“Aledo’s businesses are a huge part of our community,” said Aledo City Clerk Jarrod Dale. “We know the owners, they sponsor our local events, and we see them around town. Shop Small in Aledo means supporting your neighbors and friends.

Banners were placed all over Aledo. Their holiday this year is “Rejoice in Aledo.” Find it all in Aledo.

Small Business Saturday was born out of American Express, which encourages consumers to support small and local businesses the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
