Marty Croft, creator of popular children’s television shows including “HR Pufnstuf” and “The Land of the Lost,” died Saturday afternoon in California, his rep announced. He was 86.

Croft died of kidney failure in Los Angeles surrounded by family and friends, publicist B. Harlan Ball said in a statement.

He, along with his brother Sid Croft, is best known for creating a generation of beloved children’s television programs in the 1970s.

The duo were already known for their puppet shows when NBC asked them to produce the Saturday morning children’s drama series. That became “HR Pufnstuf”, who established himself as a fan-favorite character from their live gigs.

“The success resulted in a feature film produced by Universal Pictures as a partner and distributor,” the representative wrote.

Sid and Marty Croft Pictures became a household name in the 1970s, helping to launch and produce family and children’s shows for over 50 years. After all, Marty Croft is called the “King of Saturday Mornings.”

Croft and his brother are the brains behind the television shows “Boogaloos”, “Leedsville”, “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters”, “Prior’s Place”, “Distant Space Nut”, “The Lost Saucer”, “The Croft Super Show”. , “Wonderbug,” “Elektra Woman & Dinah Girl,” “Dr. Shrinker” and “Bigfoot & Wildboy.”

The show, which ran for two prime-time seasons from 1987 to 1989, became a hit with politicians and the public alike.

The Krofft brothers were awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2003 Saturn Awards for creating one of the most outstanding television programs.

In the year In 2018, he received a Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The couple married in 2010. In 2020, they received a star on the world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of their “Golden Anniversary”.

Most recently, Croft received the annual Julie Award at the 2023 Dragon Con in Atlanta.

Marty Krofft is survived by brothers Harry Krofft and Sid Krofft; his daughters Deanna Krofft-Pope, Kristina and Kendra Krofft; five grandchildren; and great-grandson.
