The National Christmas Tree was unchanged from Tuesday afternoon’s weather in Washington, where it fell at one point due to high winds.
CNN saw the tree on its side around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and at least one worker climbing the building. It was later fixed, and the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday.
CNN has reached out to the National Park Service for comment.
The D.C. area saw wind gusts of more than 30 mph on Tuesday, with highs of more than 40 mph reported at Reagan National Airport.
The tree — a 40-foot Norway spruce — was installed on the ellipse earlier this month. Previous news release From the National Park Service.
The tree, which was planted on Oct. 30, 2021, was removed on Nov. 11 after developing a fungal disease that caused the needles to turn brown and drop, the NPS said.
The festivities are underway in the nation’s capital, with First Lady Jill Biden announcing the festivities. White House holiday decorations this week. Unveiled Monday, the decorations feature 98 Christmas trees, 72 wreaths, 2.8 miles of ribbon and more for this year’s theme of “Magic, Wonder and Joy” to mark the holiday season.
