LANCASTER – Walter Rucker has a new vehicle. Well, new to it, anyway.

ABC Drivetrain Parts and Service at 330 S. Broad St. It offers free oil changes to veterans and active duty service members on Veterans Day. They stole a black 2001 Dodge Caliber that was selected among those getting free oil changes this year.

This is the first time the business has offered a vehicle.

“I saw a place on Facebook in Texas and they donated a car,” said Josh Reliford, general manager of ABC Drivetrain. We love taking care of veterans.

The business did 66 oil changes, so Rucker had a 1 in 66 chance of winning.

“I’m lucky,” Rucker said. “I went down for a free oil change. Then they called me two days later and told me I got my ticket out of the hat. I thought maybe it was because I had too old a car for an oil change.”

Rucker has not yet decided what he will do with his old car.

“I don’t know,” he said. “I realize one thing. I can’t pay taxes and insurance on everyone.”

Rooker, a U.S. Navy veteran who served from March 1972 to March 1976, said he initially had orders to go to Vietnam, but it was canceled and he didn’t have to go.

When Reliford told Rucker that he had won, Rucker at first thought someone was playing a joke on him.

“I have some talented friends,” he said. “I didn’t know.”
