OPINION: One Direction: Where we are now

[ad_1]

Harry. Liam Niall Lewis Zayn. You know them as one-dimensional (1D), but how well do you really know them? Today I’m talking about some history, fun facts and my personal love for 1D in honor of their album “Take Me Home” which was released on November 18th, 2011 and was released on November 9th, 2012. , “Midnight Memories” released on November 25, 2013, “Four” released on November 17, 2014 and finally “Made In The AM” released on November 13, 2015. That’s a lot of anniversaries!

Now, I’ve been a One Direction fan since I was 12 years old. I’ve seen them in concert twice! Once where we are on tour, and once again on the road in 2014 and 2015 respectively. I first saw them in Philadelphia. My mom got us the tickets and she and I turned it into a great family vacation. It had to be a “once in a lifetime” thing, seeing my favorite band live. Well, the boys had other plans. The next year they came to Cleveland, so I met them again. 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) was opening in Philly and Zayn was still with the band. In Cleveland, it was after “the incident.” Fun fact, Zayn left the group on March 23, 2015. I cried for 3 hours that day. I’ve definitely been growing since then.

I still love 1D, and I feel like I always will. I have so many memories because of them, like watching the Olympics on TV, sitting in my room with five instruments trying to break the “Steal My Girl” music video record, collecting tons of merchandise and still wanting more. (One day I’ll get that One Direction record player) or watching the video diaries from their X Factor days. To put things in perspective how much they have changed my life, I will give a small list.

Listening to their music helped me when I was depressed. I connected with a friend of mine through their music and became closer to other friends I met in Lakeland talking about them and their solo work. When we talk about any members on TV2’s Blurb, I can always add to the conversation. I used to draw lyrics to their songs and that made me realize that I love writing and creating art. In the year I saw the movie “This Is Us” in theaters with my grandmother, who passed away in 2016, so that’s a memory I’ll always cherish, and many more.

If I walk into a crowded room and start playing “No Control,” a lot of heads turn and start singing along. One of my fondest memories is when I was home alone, watching the audition tapes of the boys and crying because of how proud they were. My father then came home, saw me crying and asked me what was wrong.

“Nothing, I’m just watching some sad videos.” He then told me to destroy them and grabbed me a plate of my favorite chips and a glass of Dr. Pepper in a Harry style mug. I had all the cups, including one of the five, but Harry was my favorite. Now we use one of the five to bathe my baby sister. How it came full circle, right?

Now, according to the official One Direction fandom wiki, they have been nominated for 366 awards and won 242 of them. The AMAs, Brit Awards, MTV Music, you name it! They were never nominated for a Grammy, I was pretty bummed (and probably surprised, even though I’ve been living rent-free in my mind since I was 12). They have many books and two movies. They also performed at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics. In the year In 2016, they broke six Guinness World Records, breaking the record for the number 1 debut by a group in the United States with their first four albums, the first time a UK group broke the record for the number 1 album in the United States. The UK group’s top debut at No. 3 on the US singles chart was “Live While We’re Young,” their most popular dance game track “What Makes You Beautiful” on Just Dance 4, which received 36,817,975 views. Followers on Twitter for a band: 23,393,106 and most subscribers for a band on YouTube: 36,817,975 views.

This is the year It’s back in 2016 and some of these records have been broken, but what’s amazing to me is that this band, who came third on The X Factor UK, has done so much. They helped raise money for charity through Red Nose Day and Band-Aid meetings, and some members did solo charity work. Harry Styles is now a Grammy winner and actor, Niall is a judge on The Voice, Louis is on tour and he just released his own documentary “All These Voices” as a father. Liam and Zayn are also parents. Zayn started a business with Mixoloshe, and Liam recently got involved. The boys are all doing well on their own, but we hope you don’t forget where [They] Own it (favorite song) and make many “Midnight Memories”. Please don’t “pull me down” for all these words, just “no control”. Okay, okay. i’m done. Thank you, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson for being a vital force in my life. I can’t wait to see what you guys cook up next. Annemarie left.
