Opinion | Thoughts on the 66th Grammy nominations – The Pitt News

Grammy season is finally upon us, and I’m beyond excited. As an avid music listener, I always find it interesting to see which of my favorite artists are nominated for such prestigious awards. This year was no different as many amazing artists were given the opportunity to compete for the Grammys. Although these artists are very talented, I have some very strong opinions on who I think should win and who should win in certain categories.

In total, the Grammys have 91 categories, but there are only about. 24 main categories The crowd seems to care more than anything else. I only care about 15 categories. This includes some notable nominations such as Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Album of the Year.

Since Record of the yearThere are eight candidates in this category. The nominated songs are “Worship” by John Batiste, “Not Strong Enough” by Boygenius, “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, “My Mother” by Victoria Monet, “Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo, “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift. and “Bill Kill” by SZA.

This year the competition is very tough, and I think everyone in this category has a chance to win. These artists have dominated the charts and are currently on the rise. I would love to see SZA take home a Grammy for “Kill Bill” because I believe she truly deserves it after such a successful year. The only mystery I can think of is “The Cult” by John Batiste. You never hear about him or his music in the media, but the academy He seems to like him Anyway.

b Song of the year, this year’s eight nominees are “A & W” by Lana Del Rey, “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift, “Butterfly” by John Batiste, “Dance the Night” by Dua Lipa, “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, “Bill Bill” by SZA, “Vampire” ” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Why Was I Created?” By Billie Eilish. For those who don’t know The differences between the song and the record of the yearSong of the Year focuses on the songwriting and writers, while Record of the Year recognizes the song’s artists, producers and engineers.

Comparing each song based on its lyrical style, “Why Was I Created?” I want to. To win in this category. Lyrically, it is beautiful, and the meaning of the song is also amazing. The academy was so good that he only liked Billie Eilish Successful When it comes to the Grammys. In this category, we have another Jon Batiste sneak.

Best new artist She also has eight nominations this year and it’s become one of my favorite categories because Ice Spice was nominated and I want to see her win. Other artists up for Best New Artist are Gracie Abrams, Fred Again Jelly Roll, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, Victoria Monet and the duo The War and Peace.

If Ice Spice doesn’t win this category, I can already imagine how people will react on social media – myself included. This year has truly been the year of Ice Spice. She released an EP and a deluxe edition of that, had three major collaborations – one of them was “Barbie World” with Nicki Minaj, who was in the famous movie Barbie, literally exploded with the PinkPantheress and the crowd loved her. . The only real competition Ice Spice has is Noah Kahan. In the last couple of months, I feel that he has really increased in popularity in the media as a whole.

With touring, songs trending on Tik Tok, and recently releasing a song with Hozier, I feel like Kahan has an incredibly high chance of winning this Grammy.

last but not least, Album of the year. By far, this is one of the most anticipated categories at the Grammys. It’s one of my favorite categories, especially when some of my favorite artists are in it. This year’s Album of the Year nominees are “World Music Radio” by Jon Batiste, “The Record” by Boygenius, “Endless Summer Vacation” by Malia Cyrus, “Did You Know There’s a Cave Under Ocean Boulevard” by Lana Del Rey, “Happiness” by Janelle Monáe, ” Guts” by Olivia Rodrigo, “Midnights” by Taylor Swift and “SOS” by SZA.

I need SZA to win this Grammy. The songs on “SOS” never reminded me why I love SZA as an artist. The lyrics, beat, and melody are great, and I want the Grammys to finally recognize her talent. I also think Boygenius and Lana Del Rey have a good chance to win and I would love for them to win. Both artists make great music that the Academy should recognize.

But if “Mid Lets” or “Guts” win in this category, I would really consider it a big disappointment. I don’t think any of these albums deserve to win just because I don’t think they’re that good, especially when you’re comparing them to the competition. Both albums are mediocre, each album only has a few interesting songs. I would really hate to see Swift or Rodrigo take the Grammy here.

Among the featured artists, one artist that I do is SZA. She is currently up for nine Grammys, making her the most nominated artist for 2024. As I mentioned before, SZA has had a successful year since the release of “SOS” and it’s time we get to know her work. I really think 2024 will be her year, and we’ll see SZA screening at this year’s awards.
