RICHMOND, Va. — Ten Thousand Villages at 3201 Cary Street, which was slated to close weeks ago, had a positive response from the community on Saturday.

Executive Director and Store Manager Aisha Iqbal said, “We had such a great group of volunteers helping us set up the store, decorating our window displays because we were closing.

“We’re doing a lot of last minute shopping. So today and Saturday we are releasing the product on the ground.

The nonprofit store, which has been open for decades, is part of a retail chain that sources all of its products from underserved communities.

More than 130 artisans in 38 countries offer products.

The Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is commonly referred to as Small Business Saturday, promoting the celebration and support of local businesses.

While you can’t say with certainty that Ten Thousand Villages won’t be closed, Saturday was a step in the right direction.

Ten Thousand Villages is accepting donations to help keep its doors open to serve the Richmond community.
