WYNWOOD – You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but some forget Small business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is all about supporting local businesses.

Wynwood business owners say local marketing does more than support them.

“For us, when you support local businesses, you support the environment,” said Cherish Thachan, owner of Origins.

Wynwood is a hub for small businesses. Whether you’re looking for a clothing store, restaurant, or art gallery, you’re sure to find it in Wynwood.

Business owners Tanchan and Diana Gonzalez say the difference you find only in small businesses sets them apart.

“If you don’t support small businesses, you’re only going to have big brands. You know it’s going to be boring,” said Gonzalez, owner of the Wynwood store. “So I think a lot of people in Miami appreciate that.”

“We don’t have big contracts that people buy from before these resale items are sold, and there’s all the domestic fill that you have to go in to sell items.”

Both of their businesses feature items from other local creatives. That’s why they say local shopping has gone beyond their stores.

“It’s going to benefit a lot of different families. You know why we started it. To give different people an opportunity to have a different outlet,” Gonzalez said.

“When you invest locally, you’re encouraged to build this area. We want it to be better. I want to make sure the sidewalk is clean. I want to make sure the back here is clean. I want to make sure our front is accessible and respectable. It’s an investment for us,” Tanken said.

Small Business Saturday is a boost for local businesses, and owners around Miami are expecting another boost. Art Basel.
