Tip jar thief thwarted by employees, customers at Campbell business

November 13

4:15 a.m. In the 2600 block of South Bascom Street, two suspects cut the key to a storage unit and took construction tools and equipment.

10:25 pm at John D. Morgan Park: Officers found a stolen Honda Civic. A man has been arrested in connection with a vehicle theft and threats made yesterday. He was also in possession of methamphetamine, and was found to be under the influence of a stimulant.

8:30 p.m. In the 1100 block of East Hamilton Street, a man stole a secure tarp from three cars in his carport. The suspect then forced his way into one of the cars, but nothing appears to have been taken.

November 14

7:30 a.m. In the 300 block of Union Avenue: A gray 2023 Honda Civic was stolen. The victim said she left items and car keys in her vehicle.

17:21 pm in the 1700 block of South Bascom Street: An officer reported a stolen Mazda to a man, 31. While in custody, a woman, 33, approached officers. Officers determined both suspects were in possession of a stolen vehicle, drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine, multiple stolen mail and were under the influence of stimulants. Their 2-year-old son was in their care in the car while they were driving under the influence of illegal drugs and he had access to methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

3 p.m. in the 400 block of West Hacinda Street: The victim reported that a 34-year-old man has been calling her repeatedly from prohibited and unknown numbers, harassing her and saying derogatory and hurtful things. She also believes he entered her home.

1:30 p.m., in the 2300 block of South Winchester Boulevard: A purse was stolen from a woman’s cart.

November 15

9:07 a.m. At South Bascom and East Hamilton streets: The driver of a black BMW collided with another vehicle and fled the scene.

9:30 a.m. In the 300 block of East Hamilton Avenue, a person entered a store and took merchandise.

200 block of Budd Avenue: The victim believes someone entered his residence within the past two weeks and stole money.

Overnight in the 500 block of Nido Drive: The windshield was stolen from a 2016 Ford pickup.

Overnight in the 300 block of Budd Avenue: Someone used spray paint to mark playground equipment and restrooms.

Overnight in the 200 block of Union Avenue: Someone entered a vehicle and stole items.

9:35 a.m. in the 700 block of Nido Drive: The victim’s ex-boyfriend came to her apartment and during an argument, he grabbed her wrist and took keys from her, believing them to be car keys. He also destroyed her TV and mirror, broke a piece of glass and told her he was going to kill her. He fled before police arrived at the scene.

7:04 pm In the 500 block of East Hamilton Avenue: About 15-20 masked suspects, believed to be juveniles, entered and stole items before leaving in several vehicles before police arrived.

1:16 a.m. at Southwest Expressway and Stokes: A 47-year-old man was stopped for a vehicle code violation. A records check revealed he had outstanding warrants for his arrest and possession of methamphetamine.

2:37 a.m. East Hamilton Avenue and South Winchester Boulevard: A 24-year-old man was stopped for a vehicle code violation. He was found in possession of methamphetamine.

Overnight in the 100 block of North Third Street: Someone entered an unlocked vehicle and stole items.

In the 1600 block of West Campbell Street: A man stole a victim’s purse and later withdrew $8,000 from their savings account.

2300 South Winchester Boulevard: Two suspects stole a box containing two large butane canisters.

November 16

8:01 a.m. In the 500 block of East Hamilton Avenue, a 34-year-old man was reported swinging a stick around. Found under the influence of a controlled substance, and controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

One Night at Waldo and the Old Garden: Someone painted red on a traffic signal.

5:10 pm East Campbell Street and Highway 17: Someone used red paint to write on various fences, a trash can and an electrical box.

8 p.m. in the 200 block of Union Avenue: The victim sent candid photos of himself to the suspect, who threatened to post the photos online and if they did not send the victim’s family $2,000 in Bitcoin.

2:54 a.m. In the 160 block of Wilton Drive: A blue 2008 Mazda CX-9 was stolen.

2:56 a.m. In the 400 block of East Hamilton Avenue, the victim reported someone stole car keys before leaving the area on foot.

November 17

At night in the 600 block of East Campbell Avenue: Someone spray-painted graffiti on the men’s bathroom.

11:34 a.m. 1700 block of South Bascom Street: Someone stole merchandise, and the business wanted to be charged.

2 p.m. Creekside Way and Highway 17: The suspect was driving a stolen silver 2011 Dodge Caliber. The vehicle is sitting empty.

At 4:50 p.m., in the 1900 block of South Bascom Street, a person stole a tip jar and confronted several employees and customers. The suspect pulled out a knife, threw the tipped jar at the employee and fled the scene on a bicycle.

10:59 p.m. 2200 block of South Bascom Street: A 20-year-old woman talked to a friend about being unfaithful and punched him in the chest and face several times.

Overnight in the 300 block of Union Avenue: Someone entered an unlocked vehicle and stole items.

November 18

At 3 p.m. in the 1700 block of South Bascom Avenue: A woman stole merchandise, and the business wanted to be charged.

1:22 a.m. At Civic Center and North First Street: A driver was stopped for a vehicle code violation and was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

2:18 a.m. In the 800 block of West Hamilton Avenue, two suspects entered a business by kicking out the front door and breaking into merchandise before fleeing in a U-Haul. Los Gatos found U-Haul unaccounted for, and the merchandise was returned.

November 19

100 block of South Third Street overnight: Two laptop computers were stolen from a detached garage.

1:46 pm at 70 N. First St.: During a road rage incident, the suspect followed the reporting party to the police department. When officers were about to make contact with the suspect, he ran through bushes to get out of the parking lot. The officers caught up with Payne and Winchester, who then fled the scene at a low rate of speed. Los Gatos police later contacted the suspect, who was not cooperative.

8:03 p.m. In the 1800 block of South Bascom Street, a man fled on foot with a bag filled with grocery items.

8:17 p.m., in the 900 block of Sobrato Drive: Someone slashed a tire on the victim’s car for no reason.

11:43 pm In the 700 block of Nido Street: A 43-year-old man was stopped for a traffic violation. He was found to be DUI and arrested.
