MACOBM COUNTY, MI — A Warren business owner has been found guilty of a hate crime.

A Macomb County jury found Anthony Mangiapane, 56, guilty of intimidation, assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault just before Thanksgiving.

The charges stem from an incident in July 2022 in which Mangiapane yelled racial slurs and fired shots at the victim as he walked through his business.

Police responded to the scene, but Mangiapane refused to come out of the building. Police quickly spotted a gun case on the ground in front of the building. After testing, the forensic lab concluded that the shell casings matched those of the rifle in the building owned by Mangiapan.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J.

Mangiapane’s sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 24 before Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Edward Servito.
