Year review

Despite the meteoric rise in the use of generative AI, as of now, Hong Kong has not proposed any specific legislative amendments or amendments to existing legislation to address the recent issues arising from the use of AI-generated media.

There are still many unanswered and misunderstood questions, and we are excited to see how Hong Kong’s laws will adapt or apply to the ever-changing AI landscape.

Meanwhile, freedom of the press and freedom of speech have been curtailed in the wake of the National Security Law (NSL). Arrests of journalists, suppression of media outlets, and overt political censorship have created ongoing instability that will ultimately have a lasting impact on the news reporting industry.
